Garden furniture and accessories are ideal for Christmas
While it most certainly isn’t the season to use them, garden furniture and garden accessories make ideal Christmas gifts for this year. There’s something out there for every garden’s space and requirements, and will bring friends and family a great deal of pleasure long into the new year. A selection of garden themed gifts is a great way to ensure that the presents you buy are useful and will have some longevity in the households of those you give them to.
Think of the possibilities; garden furniture could include anything from a set of plastic chairs and a table, to a wrought iron and wood bench, or a barbecue set, or a parasol to keep the sun (and rain) off. Garden lighting is also a great idea for gifts, and it is now available as solar powered, battery powered or mains powered items, so there really is something for every home and every pocket.
There are many possibilities for any taste and any space, and in these difficult time it is most important for gifts to be functional and useful in order to be great value for you and great to receive for the people you give them to. They are reusable, which is always a good thing, and thus they will continue to be admired and appreciated for a long time to come.
So, consider garden furniture, accessories and appliances for Christmas this year, and ensure that the gifts you buy will be loved for many years to come. Plus, you could even enjoy these items with your friends and family after Christmas. Why not stage your own unique celebrations once Spring arrives, just to celebrate life and the warming of the seasons? We wish you all the very best in your search for the ideal garden items this Christmas, and we also wish you the very best for the festive period and the new tear. We’ll see you outside!
Wooden or metal 'type' patio furniture set - which would you choose?
Am feeling in the sunshine mood with the upcoming forecast! We are finally buying a patio furniture table and chair set!
What would you go for in terms of the product lasting - is wooden best - or does they tend to need a lot of maintenance and need covering or they will go mouldy? Or is the metal type ones better - or do they just rust?
What do you think - any experience or ideas much appreciated! Not got a lot to spend - £200 - £250 max for 6 chair one!
Many thanks !
I went with metal, my set is 10 yrs old now & still like new. No glass top to worry about breaking by hail etc. It has replaceable plastic feet on the bottom, no rust stains on my patio at all. The chairs are 360 degree swivel. so easy to exit or get into to. They also have springs under the seat for rocking. The set is quite common here, & the chairs are more money for this style, I bought 2 chairs one year, 2 the next year. Outdoors year round, still no signs of rust. Easy to wash also if a bird should happen to leave droppings.
Putting the ‘art’ in artificial intelligence (MIT)

Like many kids, Antonio Torralba began playing around with computers when he
was 13 years old. Unlike many of his friends, though, he was not playing video
games, but writing his own artificial intelligence (AI) programs.
Growing up on the island of Majorca, off the coast of Spain, Torralba spent
his teenage years designing simple algorithms to recognize handwritten
numbers, or to spot the verb and noun in a sentence. But he was perhaps most
proud of a program that could show people how the night sky would look from a
particular direction. “Or you could move to another planet, and it would tell
you how the stars would look from there,” he says.
Today, Torralba is a tenured associate professor of electrical engineering and
computer science at MIT, and an affiliate of the Computer Science and
Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), where he develops AI systems that
can interpret images to understand what scenes and objects they contain.
Torralba first became interested in computer vision while working on his PhD
at the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble in France. “Vision is a really
important area,” Torralba says. It is also an extremely ...
