Some Cabin Décor Tips
At the mention of cabins most of us usually think of a vacation retreat with a great view or hidden away in the mountains. They are usually used for hunting, vacationing away from the stress of work and daily life. They come in all shapes and sizes but they all have the rugged, rustic look of something that's been a natural part of the surroundings for years. Cabin décor is usually described as rustic and rugged. Country décor is usually made from natural flora and fauna from the area.
Furniture. Furniture used is mainly wooden frames with added cushions for comfort. Leather is popular in country décor. Wood stumps can provide a simple sitting area for a rugged air. For your outdoor living space, consider getting seating made from wicker or bamboo so you can relax and enjoy the fresh, pine scent and the views.
Floors. Laying carpets or rugs on stone or wood floors can add warmth and attractiveness to the area. Natural rugs like wool or those made from animal hides, such as bear or deer rugs will look great on a cabin's floors.
Windows. Window treatments should have a simple design and use natural materials. Leave windows that have exterior shutters bare. Sheer curtains and bamboo blinds will also work great. Switch to heavier wool drapes to keep the cabin warm in the winter months. Consider colorful sofa throws in quilted, floral or plaid patterns for added warmth and decoration.
Decorative Accents. Decorative touches can be fresh flowers in the spring and dried herbs or flowers in the fall. Canning fruit, vegetables and jam in colorful jars can be an attractive display in the eating areas. Walls can be decorated using antlers, moose heads, fish or any other hunting or fishing trophies. Art with wooden frames can be used as an alternative wall décor. Take pictures of the country side and hang them on the walls to bring country décor inside. Pieces of pretty and unusual stones can be put in a wooden bowl and set on a coffee table or mantle. Keeping live plants inside the cabin will also bring a fresh touch to your cabin décor.
Colors. Choose colors seen in nature. Get the genuine look of country décor by choosing, warm, earth-toned colors.
