Sand Sea
Heading for the seaside (part 1)
I’ve had enough of the big city, with its pollution and way too many people. I am planning on moving to the seaside, as in the city you can feel like nothing more than a number. We are down here not only for the fresh air and relaxing change of scenery. Our main reason for the visit is to try to find a new home, and a new town to start a fresh life.
We went straight to the beach upon arrival and saw that the tide way way out in the far distance. This town is unussual at low tide, because the sea disappears into the distance beyond the end of the pier. You often see people walk right around the pier in their search for fresh bait to dig in the soft sands. i have memories of a trip here with my father years ago on a similar low tide day, and remember him laughing at something. He pointed to a fisherman on the pier, who had dozed off and not noticed that the tide had long ago gone out. There was not a drop of water in sight, and his fishing tackle was resting on a neat pile of sand!
With our newly purchased copy of the Worthing Echo, we began to look for any local housing property in westsussex. One thing that caught my eye was the large section entitled ‘commercial property sussex which seemed to be offering plenty of properties. I was propably looking at the consequences of the recession on local business, which may have had their premises re-marketed after repossession.
Although my heart was set on an old Victorian town house, with features that I could lovingly maintain or restore, my partner was not so driven. She had been looking at another area of the paper, because she wanted a new house nearer the outskirts of the town. Her eye had focused on the adjacent advertisement entitled ‘new homes in West Sussex’, which had a wider reach than the town centre.
i've got towns with no people, deserts with no sand, seas with no water, mountains with no land, what am i?
