Planning A Tented Wedding
One of the most popular places to have a wedding reception is under a tent. Brides love tents, because they can be used in almost any location, can be decorated to suit any style, and they are a timeless wedding venue. This is what you should know about organizing the perfect wedding in a tent.
The first consideration in choosing a wedding tent is size. Have a ballpark headcount so the tent guys know how many people the tent must accomodate. You need to fit a lot more than just tables and chairs under the tent - don't forget about the band, the caterer, the wedding cake, the bar, and the escort card tables. You may need more than one tent, like an extra one for the cocktail hour. It is smart to have a canopy over the paths beween tents if the weather is not clear. The tent people will measure the area to determine if it is large enough and flat enough for the size of tent your wedding needs. When space is tight, you can save a little room by choosing round tables over square and a d.j. instead of live musicians.
Most weddings will have one of just a few tent designs. Tents are made of white vinyl, sometimes with clear vinyl inserts for windows on the walls or with a clear vinyl top. Tents with translucent roofs are fantastic for nighttime receptions. Clear top tents do not work on a hot day, as the rays from the sun will raise the internal temperature to sweltering. If you want something a little different than the standard wedding tent, ask about century tents or structure tents. A century tent has poles and looks a lot like a regular tent, only with elegantly swooping peaks that look like a circus tent. If you want a large open space that is not broken up by support poles, opt for a structure tent. There are several possibilities for tent flooring, depending on your budget, the flatness of the land, and the style you like.
Think about creating a comfortable space when you work on the tent plans. On a warm day, ceiling fans can be installed to keep the air circulating and your guests comfortable. Don't let your guests suffer through a very hot or cold reception; rent heating or air conditioning units from the tent people for climate control as needed. The only thing is that the tent walls must be closed for them to work effectively. Tents are available with white, clear, or windowed walls. On nice days, there is no need for sides on the tent. You can mix and match clear and solid sides to allow certain views to be seen and other things like the catering tent to be hidden.
Lighting is an important part of any wedding design plan. Most tent firms are able to handle standard lighting requests. Many brides like to bring in specialty lighting to create a special atmosphere. If you love the sparkle of elegant crystal wedding earrings, then you might want to rent crystal chandeliers to hang over the dinner tables. Or you could use custom gobo lighting to cast cool patterns onto the tent walls. Bathe the tent in cool water tones that look like waves or turn the white walls into an intricately pattered Morroccan tile design.
Since tents are so large, fabric is often used to decorate vast areas like ceilings, poles, or walls. The interior of the tent can be beautified with the creative use of fabric. Make the ceiling look grand with draped golden organza or dress up the tent walls with light pink shantung. The soft hue will cast a flattering glow onto the guests as they dine and dance in their beautiful attire and wedding earrings. Then all that is needed are some gorgeous fresh flowers to complete your elegant tent wedding design.
